Oppo sets up separate gamer line
OPPO, China’s No. 2 smartphone brand, has established an independent sub-brand for gaming phones, a fast growing category in the 5G era.
Ace2 for gamers goes on sale next Monday at a starting price of 3,999 yuan (US$571).
“The sub-brand and Ace2 are Oppo’s echo for game fans’ demand,” said Brian Shen, vice president of Oppo.
In the first quarter of this year, China’s smartphone sales dropped 36.4 percent from a year earlier to 49 million units. About one-third were 5G phones, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Offering higher speed and lower latency, 5G brings users better gaming experiences and opportunities like cloud gaming.
Ace2, with a 48-mega-pixel camera, has optimized setups for gamers. It has optimized display and response speed through cooperation with developers of popular game titles like the Game for Peace developed by Tencent.
Other brands such as Xiaomi and Nubia, formerly a subsidiary of ZTE, have also tapped into mobile gaming device markets with special brands and models.
