Overseas tech giants to tap cloud market

OVERSEAS technology giants are hoping to tap the booming Chinese cloud computing market to integrate with social networks and take advantage of the annual online retail festival tomorrow.

China’s cloud computing market revenue hit 37.8 billion yuan (US$5.6 billion) in 2015, a 31.7 percent increase year on year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

One of the technology giants, Oracle, is cooperating with Tencent to provide Chinese clients various cloud services with social tools including the WeChat messaging service. Both parties will establish a data center to target the domestic enterprise cloud market.

Oracle has pumped in “massive investment” on cloud computing in China, offering enterprise clients various cloud services in marketing, sales, services and finance.

Orange Business Services targets the Singles Day shopping festival on Friday to offer its cloud services. The transaction volume and value are expected to surge 10 times on the November 11 festival compared with normal days, which boosts cloud demand in China, said Orange.

Amazon, Microsoft and Dell have all set up cloud facilities and found Chinese partners.
