CHINA’S Unisplendour Corp, or Unis, and US-based Western Digital launched a US$300 million joint venture focusing on storage devices and big data services in Nanjing yesterday.
Unis WDC Storage Co, whose registered capital is US$158 million, is owned 51 percent by Shenzhen-listed Unis and 49 percent by Western Digital, one of the biggest storage device vendors globally.
Unis WDC will sell Western Digital’s storage devices in China and develop new big data products. The joint venture has its headquarters and research and development operations in Nanjing while its sales and marketing office is located in Beijing.
“Unis WDC will adhere to the concept of independent innovation and international cooperation to drive new applications for big data storage in government and local industries,” said Zhao Weiguo, chairman of Tsinghua Unigroup, the parent firm of Unis.
It will focus on data storage, analytics, security and privacy protection to improve and expand the big data industry ecosystem in China. It will also offer customized big data storage solutions for the China market, the partners said.
