SONY Corp will debut its long-awaited PlayStation VR devices in China in October as the Japanese company aims to tap the 720 million yuan (US$108 million) market in China in 2016.

Sony’s new virtual reality devices will start selling in China on October 13, with a basic set costing 2,999 yuan and an advanced set costing 3,299 yuan and 3,699 yuan with accessories like camera.

They are expected to boost demand in the Chinese VR market this year.

Sony’s VR device has to be connected with PlayStation game consoles. Globally, there are about 40 million PlayStation users who are potential buyers of Sony’s VR devices.

More than 23 VR games for Sony VR devices are expected to be available in China in October, with seven games developed locally, according to Sony.

China’s VR device market revenue is forecast at 720 million yuan this year, fourfold the level of last year, according to research company Analysys International.
