QQi now speaks 3 languages
TENCENT Holdings Ltd's online QQ chatting tool is now being offered in three foreign languages as the instant messaging service provider seeks to keep its dominant position in China's online chatting market.
The newly-launched QQ International instant messaging product (QQi) is now available in English, Japanese and French and is "intended to provide users worldwide to connect with Chinese friends, customers and clients," the company said in a statement.
"The multi-language version offers a bridge to non-Chinese users to connect with the huge user base in China," said Marc Violo, product manager of QQi.
QQi is available on the Windows platform and Apple's Mac operation system.
Third-party applications will be integrated into the QQi software and the firm's local partners will be encouraged to provide travel information and news for expatriates.
Tencent will also launch an English-language social networking site in early 2011 that will integrate QQi and its international portal.
A beta version of the QQi was released earlier this year, targeting mostly expats living in China. The company said it already has 2 million registered users and an average of 170,000 daily active users from home and abroad.
Tencent secured 76 percent of the active instant messaging accounts in China by the end of the third quarter.
