Qihoo steps into buoyant VR realm
QIHOO 360, China’s biggest online security service provider, is expanding into the booming virtual reality sector with the debut of a VR helmet display device and a new flagship handset model yesterday.
Revenue in the VR market will hit US$80 billion in the next decade as smartphones, glasses, games and other devices become increasingly integrated, according to Goldman Sachs.
Qihoo, which invested over US$400 million in new handset brand Qiku and launched the first batch of smartphones in 2015, yesterday also debuted a new flagship model with super high-definition screen, 128-gigabyte storage space and support for VR content.
The new phone and connected VR device will start selling next week at 2,999 yuan (US$455) for the smartphone and 399 yuan for the VR helmet display.
