Revenue windfall for Baidu partners

BAIDU, China's largest search engine operator, yesterday said online search revenue allocated to its partners this year will nearly double to 2 billion yuan (US$317.5 million) due to higher traffic growth and paid search income.

Baidu will continue to improve the technology and efficiency of its advertising system to increase search-based income, said Ma Guolin, general manager of the business development unit at Baidu Union.

The nearly 600,000 Baidu Union members, or smaller websites affiliated to Baidu, integrate search box into their sites and also display relevant promotional links for Baidu's advertising customers in order to receive a proportion of paid search income.

The amount of income these websites received in 2011 was 1.16 billion yuan.

Meanwhile, Baidu will also start to allow brands to launch content-based advertising in relevance with web viewers' discussions on Baidu Tieba, the online community platform. The firm will begin to utilize traffic of its Tieba as well as other non-search products, including Baidu Encyclopedia, a Wikipedia-style collaborative product, said Xiang Hailong, Baidu vice president.
