SMIC loss widens
SEMICONDUCTOR Manufacturing International Corp posted a wider loss in the first quarter because of the continued impact of the global financial crisis and fierce competition, the Chinese mainland's biggest made-to-order chip maker said yesterday.
Nasdaq-listed SMIC posted a loss of US$181.9 million in the first three months against a loss of US$178.11 million a year ago.
Its revenue hit US$351.7 million in the first quarter, up 140.1 percent from the same period last year.
In the second quarter, the company's capital expenditure is expected to range from US$150 million to US$200 million.
