Samsung Offers Coupons As Compensation

SAMSUNG will compensate Chinese consumers who bought its Galaxy Note 7 with coupons worth 200 yuan to 600 yuan (US$30 to US$90), the South Korean company said yesterday.
Consumers can get a full refund and a 200 yuan coupon for returning Note 7 whose exploding batteries have made global headlines. If users choose to replace a Note 7 with Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge models, the company will offer a coupon of 600 yuan.
Samsung halted sales of the flagship model in China and urged customers to stop using them, following a global recall of 2.5 million Note 7 models over the exploding batteries, the company said on Tuesday.
Samsung had been set to produce 10 to 12 million Note 7 models in 2016, but the unexpected production halt has opened opportunities for its rivals. Likely gainers from Samsung’s crisis include Apple and Chinese brands Huawei, Vivo and Oppo, Taiwan-based research firm TrendForce said in a note. Huawei and Oppo are to unveil new models in coming weeks.
