Smart city ambition envisioned in parks
SHANGHAI yesterday approved 10 smart parks that will integrate education, technology and finance as part of efforts to transform the city into a smart city.
High-speed wireless networks, integrated and shared technology research platforms, convenient living conditions and industry chains for cutting-edge technologies will all be features of the smart parks.
“The smart parks will feature latest technologies and incubation effects that are key to transforming Shanghai’s economy into a more innovation-oriented model,” said Zhu Zongyao, a senior official at the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology.
Leading banks, telecommunication and technology companies and venture capital firms are involved in the smart park project. China Telecom, China Minsheng Banking Corp and Beidou Navigation are among the more than 100 members of the Shanghai Smart Park Association which the city founded in March.
The new parks include Hongqiao Linkong Economy Park, Xinzhuang Industrial Park and Baoshan Industrial Zone, according to the commission.
The parks will focus on strategic industries or sectors such as information technology, intelligent device, new energy, new materials and culture innovation.
