Smarter smartphones are on show

SMARTPHONES with new technologies like laser projection, pre-5G support and high-resolution front camera, were exhibited in MWC Shanghai today, which is the summer session of the world’s biggest telecommunications show.

Startup vendor Voga kicked off its first projection smartphone with the brand Voga, which features new laser technologies offering high definition and efficient energy consumption. Voga supports projection for as long as four hours. It also features full metal design and WeChat screen projection for family sharing.

In the booth, Samsung made a demo for pre-5G test on its latest flagship model Galaxy S8, which achieved the peak download speed almost 700 megabits per second, more than 50 times compared with current speed. Before the official debut of 5G around 2018, pre-5G technologies offer consumers high speed mobile broadband services, said Samsung and network partners China Mobile and Huawei.

Another vendor Oppo presented its flagship model R11 Plus in the show, which features a 20-mega-pixel front camera for selfie fans and started sales nationwide today. Oppo will partner with China Mobile to promote its phones, Shanghai Daily learned during the MWC (Mobile World Congress) Shanghai.

The telecommunications show, which attracts 650 exhibitors, will close tomorrow.
