Software revenue grows slower

CHINA'S software industry posted a revenue increase of 24 percent year on year, a lower growth rate from a year ago, in the first quarter on weaker demand for embedded software and system integration amid the tough economic environment, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said yesterday.

Meanwhile, the MIIT's figures also showed the growth rate had started to rebound in March, with software industry revenue rising to 64.52 billion yuan (US$9.46 billion), a 30.6-percent growth year on year.

From January to March, the country's software industry revenue was 190.59 billion yuan, a 23.9-percent growth year on year, compared with a 30-percent increase a year ago, according to the ministry.

"The influence of the global financial crisis has spread in the country and hit the export revenue of the industry amid the tough environment," the ministry said in a statement on its Website.

Software exports totaled US$3.84 billion, a 48.3-percent rise year on year but it was 6 percentage points down from the growth rate a year ago.

The IT outsourcing sector contributed a revenue of US$320 million, a rise of 30.2 percent, but the growth rate was slowed by the revenue of the embedded and system integration sectors in the first quarter on weak demand for computers.
