Sony sees rise in demand for premium TVs
DEMAND for premium TVs is growing in China although growth in the Chinese TV market as a whole is declining, Sony Corp, which released high-end TV models in China including a 100-inch 4K TV, said.
Premium TV refers to a large screen size of 60-inch or above, super high resolution, advanced chip and display technologies, industry officials said.
“Consumers have various demands, therefore they are willing to pay 3,000 yuan (US$454), 30,000 yuan or even 300,000 yuan for a TV,” said Xie Biao, consumer sales and marketing president of Sony China.
In the first quarter, sales in China’s TV market totaled 12.4 million units, a 3-percent growth year on year, according to research firm AVC.
Despite the single-digit growth overall, the ratio of 4K TV sets is forecast to hit 44 percent of the whole market this year, double the ratio in 2014, according to Sony.
