Tapping income via Android
THE9 Ltd, which established a US$100 million fund for the mobile Internet in December, wants to use the money to introduce mobile game developers to Google's Android system.
By introducing developers, firms seek to earn income from Android, the fastest growing mobile platform.
The9 and OpenFeint, a United States-based mobile social gaming platform recently invested by The9, aim to bring game developers to the Android platform. They will review and select the best games and fund their development. They will also pick selected games and localize them for the Chinese market.
"Through the fund and our local resources, we hope to introduce outstanding Android games to China," said Chris Shen, The9's vice president of wireless business.
China is now the world's biggest mobile phone market with over 800 million users.
"It's a war to attract competitive mobile game app developers in China," said Wang Yuquan, Frost Sullivan's chief consultant.
