Tencent’s grants for software developers
TENCENT’S cloud computing service plans to provide 100 million yuan (US$14.9 million) worth of subsidies to medium and small developers as it seeks a share of the corporate software service market.
The move is seen as a direct challenge at Alibaba’s similar strategy to leverage its corporate e-mail service for business owners rather than individual consumers.
Tencent aims to use the subsidies to encourage software developers to provide online office communications or administrative functions for companies that use its social networking app WeChat for communications in the workplaces.
Xu Hualong, product head of Tencent Cloud Computing mobile products, said the company also intends to provide one-stop service for enterprises who conduct marketing campaigns through Tencent’s WeChat.
Earlier this year, Tencent launched the Enterprise WeChat to target corporate clients as more business owners are handling office communication and administration from mobile devices.
