Tim Cook is the first Apple chief to visit China

TIM Cook, the successor of Steve Jobs, visited Beijing today – making him the first Apple Inc's chief executive to visit China, the world's biggest mobile phone market by subscriber numbers.

Cook was seen visiting the Apple Store in Dayuecheng of Beijing, one of Apple's five directly-operated stores in the Chinese mainland. Pictures of Cook were posted on Sina Weibo, a popular social Website.

During his visit to China, Cook met with Wang Xiaochu, China Telecom's chairman and senior executives of China Unicom, according to Weibo.

China Unicom and China Telecom are official carrier partners with Apple on selling the iPhone in China. China Unicom started selling iPhone 4S in January and China Telecom, as the new partner, started the sales in March.

China has become one of the most important and rapidly growing regional markets for Apple, thanks to booming iPhone and iPad sales, Cook said previously.

Jobs, who passed away in October, never visited China as Apple's chief executive.
