Top tech firms fight scams and fraud calls
ALIBABA, China Mobile and Qihoo 360 have joined the fight against scams, fraudulent phone calls and suspicious short messages, Shanghai Daily learned yesterday.
More than 14.35 million scam phone calls were detected every day in August. About 140,000 people make fraudulent calls every day, Qihoo 360, China’s biggest online security firm with more than 900 million users, said in a report yesterday.
Qihoo 360 has also opened a database containing scam call numbers and suspected criminals’ behavior analysis to the public security bureau because it has become a “serious social problem,” the firm said.
Alibaba, the country’s biggest e-commerce website, said yesterday that it would stop prepaid telecommunications cards being sold by individual sellers on its taobao.com site. Suspects often use such cards to commit phone fraud.
China Mobile, the country’s biggest mobile carrier, has tested an anti-scam system that is able to warn users when suspicious phone numbers appeared on their mobile phone screens.
