US website sues rival in latest IPR case
US-based MFG.com sued a Shanghai-based rival website for copying the design and interface of its website, the latest example of intellectual property rights disputes between China and the United States, the company said yesterday.
The dispute was the latest case of US-based technology firms — others included Microsoft Corp, Apple Inc and Adobe Inc — involved in IPR cases, which cover trademark, copycat and piracy.
“The greatest barrier to a manufacturing business between American and Chinese companies is trust,” said Mitch Free, founder and chairman of MFG.com. “If I have a China dream, my dream is to help and see more China companies respect IP (intellectual property), respect brand and create their own brands.”
MFG started its online marketplace business in China in 2006 to introduce Chinese suppliers to oversea buyers in the manufacturing sector. But MFG found PartsSourcing, founded by its former sales director Hu Jingke in Shanghai, copied its website design and interface.
The Minhang Court in Shanghai heard MFG’s case against PartsSourcing last month, according to MGG.
PartsSourcing, which has offices in Shanghai and Ningbo, denied knowledge of the case yesterday.
