Use of videos for online sales

CUSTOMERS will be able to see videos, and not just static pictures, of products they are interested in buying when Taobao.com and Youku.com jointly launch a video shopping service at the end of this month, the two partners said yesterday.

The service utilizes Youku.com's video technology and Taobao.com's Internet shopping platform to help Taobao.com's vendors make use of videos to describe and also incorporate multi-angle introductions of their goods to interested buyers.

"Youku.com's strength in brand and technology is consistent with Taobao.com's goal of building a large and secure online trading platform," said Zhang Yu, vice president of Taobao.com, China's biggest auction Website.

Youku.com hopes the direct effect of the videos and being able to see emotional expressions in describing and introducing products can provide both vendors and buyers of Taobao.com with an ideal product display platform and brand promotion, according to Liu Dele, chief finance officer of Youku.com.

Taobao.com now only provides pictures and description of the vendors' products, which sometimes results in disputes between buyers and sellers.
