80% of Chinese watch TV while having dinner, higher than global average
AROUND 80 percent of Chinese people tend to watch TV while having dinner compared to the 76 percent global average, and they are also turning to tablet computers and mobile devices to watch programs, according to a latest study.
Four out of five viewers in China stayed glued to the TV while they have dinner, TNS, a research firm under WPP’s data investment management division Kantar, said in its “Connected Life” research report yesterday.
But 37 percent of Chinese also use other mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets while watching TV, the lowest in the Asia Pacific region, the study found.
“We’ve come to notice the connectivity across multiple devices during the FIFA World Cup in recent weeks as people are engaging the event in various ways as they want to converse with friends through social networks,” said Joe Webb, head of digital at TNS Asia Pacific.
