WeChat tops social media list in user frequency
SOCIAL media in China is gaining more popularity than ever, studies show, while user groups with different age shows various preferences, according to WPP’s consumer insights consultancy Kantar.
The survey revealed that as of 2017, WeChat boasted the highest user frequency of 94.5 percent out of the 18,500 respondents while QQ had similarly high usage rate with 83.6 percent while Weibo lagged behind with a usage rate of 35.7 percent.
But younger user groups showed peculiar high interest in Weibo with penetration rate among those aged between 18 to 25 years old significantly higher at 45.9 percent.
Respondents pointed out benefits of social media, which included allowing users to stay connected with their families and friends, and increasing their knowledge, according to a relevant survey covering 2,010 online participants.
However, the results show that social media is very much a double-edged sword.
A staggering 89.1 percent of those surveyed said that social media had certain drawbacks, some of which included loss of quality reading, lack of privacy, and health detriments.
