Xbox users able to access BesTV programs
USERS of Microsoft Corp’s Xbox One in China are able to access BesTV’s film and sport programs as China relaxed regulations on home entertainment devices after a 13-year ban.
Chinese Xbox users can watch BesTV content, including streaming videos and English Premier League soccer games, according to BesTV, which tied up with Microsoft to debut the Xbox in China in September.
BesTV, a subsidiary of the Shanghai Media Group, said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange yesterday that the regulator has approved its application for programs to be played on Xbox.
The Xbox One, launched in the Shanghai free trade zone, was the first game console legally available on China’s mainland since 2000. China set up the FTZ on September 29, 2013, as a test bed for economic reforms.
Sony has postponed the launch of its PlayStation 4 console in the domestic market, which was originally set for January 11, due to violence and sex content in the games.
