ZTE’s ambitious sales goal

ZTE Corp aims to double domestic sales of smartphones next year by selling flagship models equipped with self-developed chips to target high-end users, China’s biggest listed telecommunications equipment firm said yesterday.
The company is developing LTE chips, which will be used in smartphones supporting the current 4G and the next-generation 5G networks, said ZTE, whose chip subsidiary attracted a 2.4 billion yuan (US$370 million) investment from a government-backed semiconductor fund last month.
“We plan to become one of the top-three vendors in the domestic market in 2016, with sales doubling in the Chinese market,” said Yu Yifang, ZTE’s vice president.
In the first three quarters, ZTE sold 41 million smartphones, of which around 10 million were sold in the domestic market.
