Italian firm UFI to open new plant in China

ITALIAN auto filter supplier UFI Group announced today that it will invest and open a new plant in China next year, as the company sees the rising demand of oil and water filters for the new-energy vehicles.

“The growing demand of new-energy vehicles in China creates more needs for the oil and water filters. This means a huge opportunity for auto filter suppliers,” said Luca Biagini, chief operating officer of the Asia Pacific at the UFI Group.

Luca added that new-energy vehicle including electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle use more oil and water filters than gasoline vehicles. “As the country is actively promoting green cars, we are investing more money to develop oil and water filters for new energy vehicles.”

The company said detailed information of the new plant will be released later, without disclosing the specific location of the plant.

UFI Group, entered into Chinese market since 1996, has a total of 2,200 employees now and produces about 154,000 filters every day in China. The company produces auto filters for major carmakers including Volkswagen, Ford and General Motors.

The company established a research and development center 17 years ago (Year 2000) in Shanghai. The center now has now around 70 engineers.

“The research and development center in Shanghai develops products not only for Chinese market, but also for the global market,” Luca Biagini added.

An oil or water filter is a filter designed to remove contaminants of oil and water inside the vehicle.
