New investment

BAYER MaterialScience plans to invest 110 million euros (US$150 million) to build five new downstream facilities in China by 2012 to increase its presence significantly in the company's second largest market worldwide.

Bayer MaterialScience will build three new polyurethanes systems houses in Shanghai, Qingdao and Chongqing, one new color compounding and design center in Chongqing and a sheet facility in Guangzhou.

The company will expand its network from the east and south of China to cover the main geographical areas of the country.

More than 40 percent of Bayer MaterialScience polyurethanes business in China come from the construction, appliance and automotive sectors.
