Pfizer recalls 3 injection drugs
PHARMACEUTICAL giant Pfizer Inc started to recall three intravenous injections on Thursday after contamination was discovered in one of its Indian manufacturer's facilities.
The injections being recalled are antibiotics metronidazole and ciprofloxacin as well as anti-nausea injection ondansetron. Unidentified substances were found in floating one of Claris Lifesciences' plants, Pfizer said.
Pfizer, the world's largest drug maker, warned that using the contaminated drugs may result in death, especially for patients with weak immunity systems.
However, the three recalled injections are not distributed in China.
A doctor named Liu Gang told Beijing-based Legal Mirror that the recalled drugs were very common antibiotics and those sold in the nation were domestically made.
Xi Qing, an official of Pfizer's branch in Shanghai, also confirmed that none of the contaminated drugs were sold in the city.
Meanwhile, Claris LifeSciences also started to recall another three injections on Thursday, including antibiotics ciprofloxacin and a glucose solution.
The Indian pharmaceutical company said these drugs have been sold to hospitals in the United States.
