Stamping all over
ADIDAS AG said yesterday it plans to aggressively expand its presence to 1,400 cities in the next five years from 550 now as it aims to regain its top position in the market.
The world's second-largest sporting-goods maker will add 2,500 stores in smaller Chinese cities over the period and capture market shares with specific products tailored to lifestyle needs.
"We'll see double-digit growth in China over the coming years. It's a big population and a lot of people want their sneakers," said Adidas chief executive Herbert Hainer.
The firm expects the United States, Russia and China to constitute half of its business eventually.
Adidas plans a website for Chinese shoppers by 2012.
