Bloomberg drops suit against local firm

BLOOMBERG LP, a leading financial data provider, has withdrawn its suit against a Shanghai financial information provider after the latter made modifications to its financial data devices.

Bloomberg dropped the suit after Shanghai-based Da Zhi Hui Co made certain changes to its products' monitors, keyboards and screen displays, the US-based firm said yesterday.

"Our objectives have been met, and we agreed to withdraw the complaint against Da Zhi Hui Co," Bloomberg said in an e-mailed statement. "Da Zhi Hui made certain changes to those elements, thereby limiting the risk that consumers would confuse the two products."

Da Zhi Hui's officials were not available for comment yesterday.

Bloomberg's lawsuit, filed in December 2011, alleged that the designs of Da Zhi Hui's terminals were copied from Bloomberg machines.

It sued Da Zhi Hui for unfair competition as the Shanghai company was infringing the product by copying distinctive aspects of Bloomberg's professional services. The US firm demanded 6.6 million yuan (US$1.06 million) compensation and an apology from the Shanghai company.
