SMG-Konka pact

SHANGHAI Media Group has signed an agreement with television maker Konka Group to launch an Internet TV service, the city's media group said yesterday.

The partnership between Shenzhen-based Konka and BesTV, a new media subsidiary under SMG, will provide users with programs, including movies, fashion, finance, children, NBA and the World Expo, through new Konka TVs. Both firms will jointly promote the products in the market.

SMG has also developed an operating system for Internet TV called TVOS, like a "Windows to a computer," said Zhang Dazhong, its vice president.

The Internet TV service marked the media group's expansion into new sectors after the Chinese government unveiled its "three network convergence" policy in July which aims to integrate the three systems of TV, mobile phone and Internet.
