SHANGHAI started building of more than 67,000 units of affordable homes in the first half of this year, about 41 percent of the annual target set for this year, Liu Haisheng, director of the Shanghai Housing Support and Building Administration Bureau, said yesterday.
About 52,000 units of affordable housing were completed during the six-month period, accounting for 58 percent of the city's target this year.
The city has been striving to proceed with its affordable housing program to improve the living standards of middle to low-income households. The program mainly consists of budget homes, houses built for relocated residents, public housing units for rental as well as some low-rent apartments catering to low-income families.
