More developers set to offer discounts

AN increasing number of real estate developers are set to offer price cuts in Shanghai next month, triggered by continuously improving sentiment among homebuyers, the latest industry research has found.
Discounts will be available for around 212 residential projects, including both apartment and villa developments, across the city in April, compared with about 204 in March and 192 in February, according to Soufun.com, operator of the country's largest real estate website.
Pudong New Area will continue to lead the market with 41 developments introducing discounts, followed by Songjiang, 28 projects, and Qingpu, 25.
"The general recovery in new home transactions over the past few weeks, mainly boosted by notable discounts provided by a few developers, is definitely encouraging more firms to join the price-cutting campaign," said Qu Peng, a Soufun analyst. "It is also likely that discounts will be available for more projects within the city's Middle Ring Road in the coming months."
