Wen's property tax suggestion
CHINA should "gradually" form a property tax system that covers trading and ownership, Premier Wen Jiabao said on a visit to the finance ministry yesterday.
His comments were published in a statement on the central government's website. In its more than two-year effort to curb the property market, the government has raised downpayment and mortgage conditions, levied a property tax for the first time in Shanghai and Chongqing, built more low-cost homes, and curbed home-buying in 40 cities.
