A380 superjumbo resumes flights after repair
CHINA Southern Airlines has resumed the operation of its Airbus 380 after the country's largest jet plane reported a mechanical fault shortly before takeoff from the Beijing airport on Saturday.
The Guangzhou-based airlines announced in its official microblog on Weibo.com last night at 10:33pm that the repair has been completed and two Beijing-Guangzhou flights have been scheduled for Monday.
Its A380 was scheduled to take off at 10am on Saturday from the Beijing Capital International Airport for Shanghai when a mechanical glitch was detected and the flight was canceled.
China Southern Airlines paid 400 yuan (US$62.8) to each economic-class passenger and 600 yuan to each first-class passenger in compensation, the Guangzhou Daily reported today.
The mechanical fault was found in the superjumbo's wing flap power-drive system, the report said.
