COMAC wins 130 orders for C919 jet

THE Commercial Aircraft Corp of China won a contract for 130 C919 jets yesterday from ABC Financial Leasing and three other Chinese leasing firms.

The latest deal brings total orders for the 150-seat aircraft, the first domestically developed single-aisle passenger jet, to 730, COMAC said at the 17th Aviation Expo China in Beijing.

ABC Financial Leasing, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Agricultural Bank of China, became the first client of C919 to place a second order of 30 jets with the latest deal after it ordered 45 jets in 2012, COMAC said.

The other three buyers are the leasing subsidiary of China Nuclear E&C Group which ordered 40 jets, Huabao Leasing which ordered 30 jets as did AVIC International Leasing.

COMAC said it was the biggest order since the C919 made its maiden flight in May and indicates market confidence in the airliner.

COMAC has so far secured orders from 27 foreign and domestic customers, including national carrier Air China and leasing company GE Capital Aviation Service. Overseas orders, which account for about 10 percent of the total, include Germany’s PuRen Airlines and Thailand’s City Airways, as well as carriers from Asia-Pacific and Africa.

With a standard range of 4,075 kilometers, the C919 is comparable to the updated Airbus 320 and Boeing's new generation 737 planes.

The four-day 17th Aviation Expo China, which will end on Friday, has lured 300 exhibitors from 14 countries and regions.
