Cargo airline gets permit to fly passengers

YANGTZE River Express Airlines yesterday said it will operate domestic passenger flights from Shanghai to become the fifth passenger carrier based in the city after China Eastern, Shanghai Airlines, Spring Airlines and Juneyao Airlines.

Yangtze River Express, owned by Hainan Airlines, was set up in July 2002 to operate cargo flights.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China yesterday issued the certificate to the airline to operate domestic passenger flights.

The airline will operate passenger flights from Pudong International Airport to Sanya in Hainan Province, Guiyang in Guizhou Province and Zhuhai in Guangdong Province.

The airline’s first passenger flight Y87501 departs Shanghai at 7:45am today to Sanya on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The airline also has 26 cargo aircraft flying on more than 40 routes globally.
