China Eastern plans system update after merger

CHINA Eastern Airlines will cooperate with TravelSky Technology Ltd to update its departure and ticket-booking systems after its takeover of Shanghai Airlines.

TravelSky, China's largest electronic air travel distribution system provider, yesterday signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai-based China Eastern to offer technology support for the carrier. Their cooperation will start on December 30.

"Our departure and ticket-booking systems need to be updated after we merge with Shanghai Airlines, and TravelSky will help us work on the systems," said Chief Information Officer Cai Yang.

TravelSky will also help China Eastern update its systems when it joins an air alliance to achieve seamless connection with other alliance members.

"We are still in talks with different alliances and expect to announce the decision in February or March," Cai said.

Under the pact, China Eastern will launch its new official Website on June 30.
