Cold storage plant strategic move

PREFERRED Freezer Services, a United States-based cold storage specialist, started construction yesterday of a warehousing facility at Shanghai's Lingang Logistics Park in a strategic move to enter the world's fastest-growing consumer market for perishable food and pharmaceutical products.

When completed, the approximately 280,000 square feet refrigerated warehouse is set to be the largest and most advanced single-story cold storage facility in China.

"The Lingang facility will be the largest in PFS's global network and the first of many leading-edge facilities that we have planned for China," said John Galiher, chief executive officer of PFS.

"We hope to provide an improved option for local as well as multinational food companies in the country," said Galiher.

New Jersey-based PFS, one of the largest public refrigerated warehouse companies in North America, is the first US company to build and operate its own cold storage facilities in China.

PFS and Dalian-based Yida Group, a private real estate developer in the country with expertise in software park investment, development, operation and management, said they will jointly invest in the cold storage facility.

The warehousing facility is strategically located minutes away from the Donghai Bridge which connects the Lingang New Area to the Yangshan Deep Water Port.
