Contract for 20 C919 jets
THE Commercial Aircraft Corp of China (COMAC) yesterday won a contract for 20 C919 jets from Huaxia Financial Leasing, the leasing unit of Huaxia Bank.
The latest deal boosts the total orders for the 150-seat aircraft, China’s first large passenger jet, to 450.
COMAC has so far secured orders from 18 customers, mostly from China, but also include US-based GE Capital Aviation Services and Ireland’s Ryanair.
The plane is set to make its maiden flight by the end of this year. Assembly work on the first aircraft began in Shanghai in September. The first C919 aircraft, with a flight range of 4,075 kilometers, will be delivered this year, COMAC said.
China has invested 200 billion yuan (US$32 billion) into the C919 program since 2008.
