Delta to open direct airway between LA, Shanghai
US Delta Air Lines announced Wednesday that it plans to begin daily nonstop service between Los Angeles International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport on July 9, pending approvals from U.S. Department of Transportation and foreign governments concerned.
The Los Angeles market makes up 25 percent of all U.S.-Asia demand, and the start of Shanghai service will mark Delta's fourth daily nonstop flight to the Asia-Pacific region in addition to Tokyo-Narita, Tokyo-Haneda and Sydney.
The new airway will bring the number of Delta's flights to Shanghai to 42 per week, in addition to those departing from Detroit, Seattle, and Tokyo, according to report from USA Today.
Delta's Los Angeles-Shanghai flight will connect customers to more than 25 cities in China, while the Los Angeles-bound flight will offer connections to 40 markets throughout the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
A 291-seat Boeing 777-200LR aircraft will be used on the route.
