Disk breaks foreign monopoly
CHINA has invented a carbon aircraft brake disk and in the process shattered foreign companies' monopoly on the product.
The brake disk, developed by the Xi'an Chaoma Technology Co Ltd affiliated with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, passed the appraisal of experts in Xi'an last Friday.
The brake disk has proprietary intellectual property rights and meets international standard, according to the experts.
The disk costs half of similar products overseas and can save about 100 million yuan (US$14.6 million) annually for the Chinese civil aviation industry.
The disk has received the manufacturing licence for the Boeing 757 aircraft and the Airbus 318/319/320 jets.
