Eurocopter aims to fly high with 100 copters
EUROCOPTER, a leading helicopter maker, plans to sell about 100 corporate helicopters in China in the next 10 years as the firm seeks to tap the huge growth potential in the domestic aviation market.
"About 200 civil helicopters, including corporate helicopters, are flying in China now, compared with 12,000 in the United States and 900 in France. We estimate the number will grow to 500 in five years and 1,000 in 10 years in China," said Bruno Boulnois, CEO of Eurocopter China, yesterday.
To keep pace with the growth, Eurocopter is set to sell 50-100 corporate helicopters to Chinese buyers in the next five to 10 years to help it keep its 40 percent market share in the country, Boulnois told Shanghai Daily.
The company has sold 160 helicopters in China and cooperated with China's largest plane maker, Aviation Industry Corp of China, to develop the EC175 helicopter.
To lure more Chinese business buyers, Eurocopter yesterday collaborated with Airbus to present a new cabin interior concept, called Phoenix, that is specially designed for the Chinese market.
Meanwhile, Airbus also predicted yesterday it would sell about 30 business jets in China in the 12th Five-Year period, from 2011 to 2015.
"China has become the fastest growing market for business jets. Last year, orders from Chinese consumers accounted for 25 percent of Airbus' business jet orders worldwide," said Francois Chazelle, vice president of corporate jets at Airbus, adding that the firm may see a similar percentage this year.
Airbus has sold 25 business jets to high-end Chinese clients since 2005.
