Fuzhou Airlines closes in on take off
HAINAN Airlines will launch a new subsidiary, Fuzhou Airlines, in cooperation with the Fujian provincial government to expand into the south China market.
The new airline will have a total investment of 2 billion yuan (US$319 million) and will be based at Fuzhou Changle International Airport and operate both domestic and international flights, according to Hainan Airlines.
The airport is currently one of the main operating bases of Xiamen Airlines, which counts China Southern Airlines as a major shareholder.
Hainan Airlines did not give a specific timetable for the launch, which still needs approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
Industry analysts said Fuzhou Airlines will compete with Xiamen Airlines.
China's major carriers have forged closer cooperative relationships with different local governments in recent years, enabling them to receive favorable policies and financing.
