HK air passenger traffic rises 1.4%

HONG Kong air passenger traffic rose 4.1 percent last month, the Airport Authority said.

The mild rise was mainly due to more local residents traveling during the Easter holidays. Resident traffic saw a 40-percent year-on-year jump in the month, while overall visitor traffic fell 9 percent amid the economic downturn. In contrast to a rise in passenger traffic, air cargo traffic contracted sharply in exports to all major markets, down 27 percent from last year. Imports also shrank 16 percent, with cargo volumes from southeast Asia and Japan dropping the most.
