Harbin delivers lifts for jet
HARBIN Hafei Airbus Composite Manufacturing Center delivered its first parts today in Harbin, a step closer for the facility to be capable of producing five percent of the airframe for the A350 XWB jet.
The package - a set of A320 elevators - will be transported to Tianjin port by road, then by sea to the Airbus factory in Getafe in Spain, where they will be assembled on the plane.
"The delivery of the first parts today proves the mature capabilities of the manufacturing center in producing composite components. With the A350 XWB ramp up, by 2016 around 600 employees will be working in the manufacturing Center," said Laurence Barron, president of Airbus China.
The center started production in December 2009 with single-aisle work packages for A320 family aircraft, including elevators, rudders and HTP spars. It is aimed at producing four sets each month in 2011, when the center will also supply rudders, elevators and maintenance doors.
Airbus and its Chinese industrial partners, including Harbin Aircraft Industry Group Co Ltd, joined forces to establish a manufacturing center in Harbin, last year as part of company plans to make five percent of the airframe in China.
Harbin Aircraft Industry Group Co Ltd holds a 50 percent stake in the venture and Airbus holds a 20 percent stake. Hafei Aviation Industry Co Ltd, Avichina Industry & Technology Co Ltd and Harbin Development Zone Heli Infrastructure Development Co Ltd each hold a 10 percent stake.
Airbus is committed to a long-term strategic partnership with China. The total value of industrial cooperation between Airbus and the Chinese aviation industry is expected to be close to US$200 million annually in 2010 and US$450 million in 2015.
