Inland ports seek to deepen trade ties
WINNIPEG'S CentrePort Canada will cooperate with China's Cuntan Port in Chongqing to tap increasing trade and investment between the two countries.
Under the memorandum of understanding, which was signed in Shanghai yesterday, the two inland ports will cooperate in information exchange, technology sharing and promoting initiatives to deepen trade between the two nations.
"Our government has made impressive gains in our commercial relationship with China in recent years," said Stockwell Day, president of the Treasury Board.
China is now Canada's second-largest merchandise trading partner. Chinese businesses increased their direct investment in Canada by 69 percent last year.
"The sky is not limited in the coming years," Day said, when asked for his forecast on prospects for Sino-Canada trade and investments as they are set to increase.
