Order of 45 C919s is biggest for maker

COMMERCIAL Aircraft Corp of China, also known as COMAC, yesterday signed a deal to sell 45 more C919 jets to ICBC Leasing Co in the biggest order so far for the 150-seat jumbo jet.

The contract, signed yesterday, brings COMAC's total orders to 145 for the Chinese-made aircraft.

ICBC Leasing, the financial leasing arm of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the country's biggest lender, has a registered capital of 5 billion yuan (US$784 million). It mainly focuses on aircraft and ship leasing.

The leasing company currently owns 70 large aircraft, which it leases to carriers from home and abroad.

COMAC had already received firm orders for 100 C919 jets from China's four biggest carriers - China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Air China and Hainan Airlines - as well as China Development Bank Leasing Co and GE Capital Aviation Services.

The C919 may make its maiden flight in 2014.
