Orders decline at Xi'an Aircraft

AVIC Xi'an Aircraft Industry (Group) Co Ltd plans to boost sales of Modern Ark 60 passenger planes globally after the company said a decrease in orders will likely cut its net income 70 percent this year.

The company delivered two MA60 twin-turboprop planes to Okay Airways yesterday, increasing its MA60 deliveries to 61, Xi'an Aircraft said in a statement. Another 120 planes are still on order.

In May, a MA60 plane carrying 25 people crashed into the sea several hundred meters from the runway while attempting to land in bad weather in Indonesia's eastern province of West Papua. Everyone aboard was killed.

Xi'an Aircraft subsequently said all MA60s were operating normally and no contracts had been terminated.

However, the military and civil aircraft maker said in a filing to the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on Monday that its net income this year is estimated to drop 70 percent.

Xi'an Aircraft lost 51.3 million yuan (US$7.9 million) in the first four months of this year. It lost 22.74 million yuan in the first quarter.
