Party expels ex-COSCO exec for violations
中远集团原党组成员、副总经理徐敏杰被开除党籍

A former executive of Chinese shipping giant COSCO has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for “serious violations of discipline and law,” the Party’s anti-graft body said yesterday.

Xu Minjie, who was vice president of state-owned COSCO until last November, had taken advantage of his position to falsely claim personal expenses, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said in a statement. It didn’t disclose the number of false claims he had submitted.

The Party has decided to dismiss Xu and passed the case to the relevant judicial authorities, the statement said. This move means the shipping veteran is set to face formal criminal charges.

Xu resigned as a director at Hong Kong and Shanghai-listed COSCO Holdings, a subsidiary of COSCO Group, for “personal reasons” last November after COSCO Holdings said he was being investigated by the authorities.
