Pudong airport to build resting rooms
PASSENGERS who face overnight flight delays at Pudong International Airport will be able to sleep in comfort because the airport plans to build around 1,000 accommodation rooms in its terminals, the Shanghai government said yesterday.
It’s the first time for the city’s airport to build accommodation rooms, which are common at airports overseas, to cater to passengers facing overnight delays or transfers. Spread over 120,000 square meters, the rooms will offer a place to rest for the passengers who now have to stay in the airport or nearby hotels or motels.
The public area of the rooms will have a reception hall, restaurants, meeting room, gymnasium and shops, the city government said on its official microblog account. Other passengers can also use the gym and dine at the restaurants.
The airport also plans to build the world’s biggest satellite terminal buildings.
