Rail spending boost

CHINA’S top economic planner has approved spending of 194.58 billion yuan (US$28.3 billion) on five railway projects.

The National Development and Reform Commission has approved the construction of a 432-kilometer railway between Ganzhou in Jiangxi Province and Shenzhen at an estimated cost of 64.13 billion yuan, the Ministry of Transport said yesterday.

The other projects include a 148.7km, 44.9 billion yuan line between Beijing and Tangshan in Hebei Province and a 375km link, at a cost of 38.56 billion yuan, between Mudanjiang City and Jiamusi City in Heilongjiang Province as part of the government’s broader plan to rejuvenate the rust belt region in the country’s northeast.
